

Apolonio Chavez, Jr., 85, of Davenport passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday 4/22 at The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Apolonio was born May 18, 1925 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Apolonio Sr. and Rosario (Medina) Chavez. He was united in marriage to Peggie Estelle Wilkins April 17, 1947 in Rock Island.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII and the USMC during Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement in 1983 he worked at Farmall as a machine operator for 25 years. He also owned and operated Chavez and Sons Midnight Shoe Repair in Davenport.
He is a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Apolonio had a strong love for his family and loved to brag about his kids to everyone. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico to visit his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Peggie, Davenport; daughter, Lisa (John Markey) Chavez, Chicago, granddaughter, Kirsten Markey; son, David and Sheryl Chavez, Moline, grandchildren, Joseph Diaz and Stephen Ott; brother, Al Chavez, Davenport; 4 sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eva Kiss.
