Ardis was born in Davenport on June 21, 1941, the beloved daughter of Rollin R. and Violet E. (Peden) Kirkpatrick. She graduated from Davenport Central High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Jerome W. “Jerry” Rettler on November 11, 1961, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2007.
Known as the “Neighborhood Nanny,” Ardis provided daycare for over 30 years before retiring. She loved vegetable gardening and would can her own vegetables along with baking her famous sugar cookies with icing for her family to enjoy. She also loved playing bingo and watching her grandchildren’s baseball games, but, most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory, include her sons, John (Melissa), Davenport; and Jason (Emily), Blue Grass; grandchildren, Brandon (Charlie) Cornett and Taylor, Austin, Grace and Faith Rettler; great grandchildren: Aydin, Alyvia, Isabella and Draven; brother Roger (Jan) Kirkpatrick, Davenport; brother-in-law, Mike Smith, Davenport, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Karen Perme and Kay Modglin.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ardis was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra K. Smith and brother-in-law and wife, Dallas (Sharon) Rettler.
