

Ben F. McDonald, 75, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the mortuary. He was born March 28, 1941 in Dora, Missouri the son of Matthew “Mack” and Lora (Smith) McDonald. Ben graduated from Dora High School in 1959. He retired from Case IH in East Moline, earlier he drove a milk truck for many years. Ben was united in marriage to Carolyn Heather on March 6, 1976 in Davenport, IA. He loved to spend time outdoors and to hunt especially raccoons and rabbits. He bred beagles and loved animals. Ben was known for being sentimental and for the big hugs he gave. He loved his wife and all the girls in his life who knew him as “Papa Bear” and “G-Pa”. Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 40 years, Carolyn; children: Kay Coyne, Moline, IL; Tom (Angie) Thomas, Omaha, NE; John (Sandra) Troxell, Ft Myers, VA; 10 grandchildren including special grandchildren: Tessa, McIntyre, Megan McIntyre and Megan Mills; 2 great grandchildren David and Melody; siblings: Robert (Joyce) McDonald, Dora, Missouri, Louise (Cliff) Dennis, Hobbs , New Mexico, Ruthie Davis, Dora, Missouri and Janice (Lloyd) Mitchell, Mountain Grove, Missouri, special niece, Kari (Gordon) Porter and special friend and Elder, Eddie (Joyce) Lee and special pet beagle, Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Mary Cooper, Ada Easley, Dorothy Atha, and Raymond McDonald and son, Ed Thomas.
