Beverly Jean Nelson

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held with a public memorial service in the future when Beverly and Norman are interred at Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Any memorials will be donated in Beverly’s name to local charities. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Beverly was born May 21, 1930, to Martha and Thomas Dowler and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Upon graduation from Bowen High School, she went to McCormick College of Commerce and graduated as an Executive Secretary. While in high school, she met Norman Nelson. Beverly and Norman were married for 66 years before he passed on June 3, 2019. Beverly and Norman lived in Chicago while he worked for U.S. Steel Corp. He was transferred to Bettendorf, IA, where they lived for 18 years before being transferred to St. Louis, MO. After 6 years in St. Louis, Norman retired and they moved to New Bern, NC, where they lived for 22 years, before moving back to Davenport.

Beverly loved her church, Bingo, playing Gin and Euchre.

In addition to her husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gregg N. Nelson; and brother, James Dowler.

She is survived by son, Bruce (Shari); grandsons, Benjamin (Candice), Nathan (Alyssa Rector), and Perry; great-grandchildren: Kayley, Caysen, Amilya, Aubrey, and baby Benjamin due in August. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
