

Bruce Carvel “Woody” Woodford, 76, of Princeton, IA; passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Iowa Masonic Home in Bettendorf. Per his request, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of his life will be held in the spring. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity

Bruce was born November 22, 1939 in Davenport; the son of Carl K. and Myrtle E. (Baugh) Woodford. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army Reserves from whence he retired. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #539. Later, he worked as a RIA small arms repairer and armourer at the National Matches, Camp Perry, OH.
He was united in marriage to Susan C. Spooner on December 31, 1966 in Laurel, MD.
Woody was a competitive shooter and double distinguished in pistol and high powered rifles. He was one of the founders of the LeClaire Sportsmen Club and a member of the Milan Rifle Club as well as a lifetime member of the N.R.A. He mentored many junior shooters and while in the Reserves, coached shooting teams in pistol and high powered rifles. He enjoyed woodworking, mostly turning out pieces on the lathe.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Susan, Princeton; brothers: Laurence “Bud” Woodford,( Mary), Taft, TN and Alan (Sherry) Woodford, Stratford, MO; sister-in-law, Shirley Woodford, Long Grove, IA and many other relatives along with numerous friends, civilian and military from over the years.
His parents and a brother, Charles Woodford preceded him in death.
