So sorry to hear of Bruce's passing.  He was a great guy, a very good Soldier, someone I will never forget.  We earned our first service rifle leg together and it is a memory that I cherish.  May he rest in peace.

Hi Sue, me again.  I was just remembering the times at Perry.  His pranks were always the highlight of my day.  One day I thought I would mess with him a little.  As usual, there was a long line of shooters waiting with their rifles, getting their triggers weighed and having Bruce give them a quick once over.  The line was loud with chatter as I stepped into the doorway of the Rock Island trailer. In a gruff voice I yelled "If you would quit goofing off in here and do some work we wouldn't have to stand in this line!" Well it got reeeaaalll quite and Bruce just froze.  While I was standing there anticipating a rifle butt stroke to the back of my head, I saw Bruce slowly raise his head from working on a rifle.  He slowly swiveled in his chair to face the door, teeth clinched and squinting hard to see just what sort of a fool was standing there.  After a couple of seconds he realized it was me and busted out with that laugh of his.  And the world was right again, the birds were singing and the shooters were talking and laughing (and not stomping me into the ground).  I will never forget him.

A GREAT GUY TO WORK WITH IN THE ARMY RESERVE!  EACH LITTLE ITEM WAS A CHIEF CONCERN TO HIM AND HE WILLINGLY SHARED HIS KNOWLEDGE WITH ANYONE WHO NEEDED HELP.  CHUCK WHEELER, SAN ANTONIO, TX.

I have never met you, nonetheless please accept my sympathy on Bruce's death.

In my more than 50 year association with Bruce he was always a gentleman in my presence.  He was a great rifle and pistol shooter.  He was a great coach.  He was always proud of the results of his coaching.  He stayed in touch with many of the greats and many of the not so greats.  The work he did with his computer skills in his later years helped many keep up to date with how both military and civilian shooters were doing.  His wide contacts in the shooting sports made his reporting worth waiting for.  Bruce's death is a substantial loss for everyone, shooters and non shooters alike.  As I sit here with tears of my own in my eyes I am reminded that life is full of challenges, disappointments and uncontrollable tragedies.  Still, just around the corner we find happiness, laughter, loving and lasting relationships, and a reason to believe in a greater power than ourselves.  May God bless your family and comfort you. I am so sorry for your loss! Bruce was a terrific guy, he really cared about us. I will always remember him,and all he did for me, on my journey as a USA pistol shooter! He will be missed greatly!!!

Sue, What can I say, Helmut called me and told. Bruce was the Best coach, armour, shooter, mentor and  most of all Friend. I'd leaned from Bruce to think things through and to give his type of reply, Thank you Bruce you'll always be with me. Harold


Those that knew Bruce from shooting will agree that he was one of the most talented marksman in the nation.  As a shooter, he attained the highest classifications in traditional shooting including Double (rifle & pistol) Distinguished and President's Hundred and was a state rifle champion.  As a coach, he mentored numerous junior shooters, a National Pistol Champion, coached a winning rifle team at the All Army Matches and a NRA National Championship Pistol Team.  He taught the Army's match/precision rifle and pistol building and maintenance course at Rock Island Arsenal and repaired and enhanced the accuracy of literally thousands of firearms for participants at the National Rifle and Pistol Matches.  Serving in the Army Reserve, Bruce taught scores of deploying soldiers and others how to use their firearms to protect themselves and serve the nation.  He would help any shooter attempting to better themselves to the limit of the time available.  I think one of the awards he was proudest of was when a junior rifle team presented him a rifle receiver with serial number of WOODFORD rather than the typical numeric serial number.

Sue, I am so sorry to hear about Woody.  He was something special to me from the moment I met him back in '86 while he was coaching the Fourth Army Service Rifle Team.  He was a friend, mentor, and prankster and I will miss him greatly.  See you on the other side Mr. Dilligaf - favor center.
