

Funeral services for Calvin J. Harris, 87, of Donahue, IA, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Harris passed away on Saturday, November 05, 2011 at St. Mary Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Davenport. Calvin Joyce Harris was born on January 9, 1924 in Harlan, IA, the son of Verner and Tina (Tague) Harris. He later moved to Charles City, IA where he graduated from Charles City High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Hospital Apprentice First Class. During his service he was stationed in French Morocco, North Africa. He owned and operated Cal Harris Excavating, and formerly owned Capitol Lanes bowling alley. Mr. Harris enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR. He especially loved watching his grandson race in Midwest dirt track events. He is survived by seven Daughters: Janine (Dale) Labath of Davenport, Arlene (Mike) Wallace of Pensacola, FL, Madeline (Darryl Bowers) Jared of Summerdale, AL, Teresa Harris of North Ft. Meyers, FL, Melisa York of Cape Coral, FL, Amanda Harris of Davenport, Christina Johnson of Davenport; four Sons: Allen (Karen) Harris of Davenport, Dale Harris of Pensacola, FL, Dennis (Barb) Harris of Acworth, GA, Calvin Jay (Angie) Harris of Bettendorf, IA; 25 Grandchildren, 35 Great-grandchildren, 3 Great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Dutchess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Sister: Leota Andersen; two Brothers: Gaylord and Billie Harris; and a Brother-in-law: Earl Andersen. Memorials may be directed to the Donahue American Legion or to Hospice Compassus.
