

Carmen Chavarria, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of her home Monday, January 26, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport, IA. with a Rosary service beginning at 10:30 A.M. (There will be a short viewing in St. Clements Center from 10 to 10:30am.) She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Carmen was born November 14, 1934 in Holly, CO. to Raymond and Maria (Montelongo) Martinez. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Cesareo Chavarria on October 19, 1957 in La Junta, CO.
Carmen worked for the Federal Government for 37 years, starting in Pueblo, CO and later in Davenport Iowa where she currently resides. She was an Industrial Specialist and loved her work! Accolades are many in her career. She retired in 1990 and decided to go into business for herself selling nutritional products! Thereafter, she traveled with her husband and friends to the east and west coast before his passing in 2015.
Family life was central to Carmen. Her husband was a well-known musician in the area, and they both loved to dance. Friends were many, and they enjoyed their lives! She also loved Art. She loved to color and paint motivational and spiritual pictures with her Oldest Son, Daniel. Other times are spent with family watching her favorite football team, The Denver Broncos!
Carmen’s life was built on her Faith in God, her foundation. She was involved in the Catholic Women’s League and was an active parish participant at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Her contributions were many! From church cleaning to Eucharistic Minister, to Lector, to hosting Mexican Festival Dinners, to the Captain of Our Lady of Fatima Organization, honoring devotion to Our Lady of Fatima for several years!
The best gift she taught/gave to her family was "Unconditional Love.” No matter what! She loved us all with her “Arms Wide Open!” Many times, in her later years, she would often say “God has been so good to me, he provided everything! He provided for us!” She was happy and Full of Grace! God Be with you Mama! We Love You!
Those cherishing her memory include, her children, Gloria (Kent Heinen) Chavarria, Davenport; Steve Chavarria, Davenport, and Celeste Chavarria- Adams, Davenport; twelve grandchildren, David, Dana, Dillon, Tina, Paige, Faith, Leah, Breanna, Autumn, Stevie, and Jessica; four great grandchildren, Ayden, Avery, Onna, Brandon, Braydon, Mila, Oaklynn, Brooklyn, Alessio, Rees, and Laelynn.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cesareo, and her son Daniel.
