Chaney Leroy Burris Jr.

Chaney L Burris Jr., 83 of Davenport, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Per his wishes cremation will take place. A private memorial service will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com

Chaney was born on March 21, 1941 in Jones County, IA to Chaney and Ruth (Bender) Burris. Chaney married Glenda Latimer on September 11, 1961. They later divorced. He married Mary Gruman on April 11, 1980 in Davenport. Chaney was employed by John Deere Davenport Works, after 20 years of employment, he retired in 2001.

In his free time, Chaney loved to go fishing. He also enjoyed collecting model ships. But his true enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Mary; children, Denise Duran, Jennifer (David) Serrurier, Robert (Lisa) Horton, Dana (Mark) Mattley, Ray (Louise) Horton; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Edith (Paul) Shimp, John Burris, and Gwen Burris; and several nieces and nephews.

Chaney was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, Michael Horton, and siblings, June Braack, Richard Burris, Ronald Burris and Craig Burris.
