

A wake will be held for Charles Richard Fesenmeyer Jr. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday January 29th at the home of his brother Thomas, 301 Richards Street, Iowa City, Iowa. Friends and family are welcome to join in this gathering to celebrate Dick's life...Charles Richard Fesenmeyer, Jr. passed away at home in Iowa City, Iowa on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Known as Dick or Rich to his family and friends, he was born December 5,, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to Dr. Charles Richard and Kathlene Bowling Fesenmeyer. He spent his childhood years in Davenport, Iowa, graduating from Davenport Central, Class of 1967. Dick played the string bass in the high school orchestra. He followed in his parent’s footsteps and attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelors of General Studies. He was a member of MENSA.He remained an Iowa City resident for the rest of his life. He worked as a cameraman for WMT in Cedar Rapids and as a photographer for A.C.T in Iowa City. He was a man of many talents and hobbies. Dick was an avid amateur astronomer. He combined his love of photography with his love of the solar system by taking spectacular images through his telescope. Dick designed and built a handicap- accessible telescope to share with those who are disabled. Model railroading was another of his passions. He put his carpentry and woodworking skills to good use creating a train layout in his garage loft. Dick could fix anything: cars, plumbing, motorcycles, computers and more. He participated in motocross racing for several years and ran in a half-marathon. He did the New York Times crossword puzzle every day in record time. Dick was a cat lover who could never turn away a hungry and cold visitor. He made a difference and will be missed.Dick is survived by his mother, Kathlene Fesenmeyer of Davenport, his sisters: Nancy Fesenmeyer of Iowa City and Kathlene (William) Edwards of Rockford, Illinois, and his brother, Thomas Fesenmeyer (Dr. Ann Connors) of Iowa City. He is also survived by nieces: Elizabeth Beers, Jennifer DiCaro and Maureen Fesenmeyer and nephews: Mark Edwards, Eric Edwards and Victor Fesenmeyer. He is predeceased by his father, Dr. Charles R. Fesenmeyer in September of 2011 and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Family graveside services were held in Davenport, Iowa on Thursday, January 19, 2012 with arrangements being handled by Cunnick-Collins Mortuary.
