Dale Fredrick Von Thun of LeClaire, IA passed away on February 6, 2024 at the age of 66. He was born on November 27, 1957 in Clinton, IA where he grew up. Dale graduated from Clinton High School in 1976. He worked as a relief operator at ALCOA (Arconic) for over 40 years.
Dale came to faith in Christ in 1981, and was extremely active in his church body at Pleasant View Baptist Church. He served at various times as an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher, a Youth Volunteer, and Awana Listener / Commander. His impact for the Kingdom is certainly one of his most precious accomplishments.
Dale lived an extremely active life, the joke amongst his immediate family is that he would get bored and cut down a tree. Aside from being an amateur lumberjack he cycled through a number of hobbies throughout his life. He loved going to baseball games and fishing with his uncles as a kid. He spent numerous childhood days on the river with his brother and sisters on their parent’s houseboat. He hunted turkey and pheasant. He played Softball, Basketball, and Hockey.
He spent family vacations with his wife and kids, camping and canoeing, or visiting resorts in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Canada. His grandkids will always remember him taking them to the Creation Museum.
He spent his later years on his boat, wading through various trout streams in NE Iowa, or relaxing at his and Vanessa’s camper at Spook Cave Campground.
Dale loved to eat and would almost always be the last one left at the table. He was quick to assist anyone in need and was always looking for “teachable” moments to share with those around him. He could fix almost anything, or at least attempt to do so. Ask his immediate family about his 1978 Ford Pickup or his FrankenMower, or visit his home in Le Claire (there isn’t a room that he didn’t remodel to some extent).
Dale lived a generous life, he has asked that any gifts or donations go to the family so they can contribute them to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital on his behalf.
He is preceded in death by his mother Phyliss Von Thun, and his sister Dawn Griswold.
Dale is survived by the love of his life and spouse of 46 years Vanessa Von Thun, his father Roland Von Thun, his sisters Royanne Corby (and her family) and Rhonda Von Thun, his brother Roland Von Thun and his wife Sandy, his brother in law Steve Griswold (and his family), his daughter Melissa Kendall and her husband Jon Kendall, their two sons Jonah and Micah Kendall, his son Jeremy Von Thun, Jeremy’s wife Sara Von Thun, and their three children Tycho, Bryleigh and Clarabelle Von Thun.
