

DAVENPORT – Dale A. Wingate, 84, of Davenport passed away January 5, 2017 in Davenport from complications of extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Monday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary & Cremation, 1200 E. 39th St., Davenport. Family will greet friends from 9:30 am to service time on Monday at the Mortuary. Private family burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Dale was born February 18, 1932, in Davenport, the son of the late Harry and late Florence (Berrigan) Wingate. As a boy he delivered the Davenport Times-Democrat by bicycle to the Kimberly Rd & Brady St route, a rural area at the time. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1950 and worked at Ruan Trucking as a mechanic until joining the Air Force in 1951. He was united in marriage to Ruth Kintzle on March 25, 1952, in Wichita Falls, TX. She preceded him in death August 14, 2007.Dale worked as an airplane mechanic before his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1956. After discharge from the service, he started working for the City of Davenport as a mechanic and retired after 38 years as shop supervisor. Before Dale’s illness got the better of him he enjoyed repurposing old wood furniture, eating out at various local restaurants and watching reruns of TV shows/movies dating back to the 1940s. Survivors include his sons Terry (Bonnie), Buffalo; Daniel (Phyllis), Timothy (Debra), & Michael, all of Davenport; daughters Kathy (Gerald) Warner & Diana (Michael) Stacey, Davenport, Sherry Lightner, Le Claire; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way. In addition to his wife Ruth and his parents, also preceding Dale in death are sisters Verna Mae (Wayne) Brooks, Fresno, CA, Lou Ann Jones and his brother-in-law Donald Jones (Bettendorf).
