

Darwin Eugene Suhr, 77, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the mortuary from 5:00PM – 7:00PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery. Darwin was born on October 19, 1936 in Davenport, IA, the son of William C. and Marjorie (Schnack) Suhr. He was united in marriage to Wenona J. Shumard on November 6, 1965 in Davenport. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Davenport Lodge #37, AF&AM. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner KAABA Shrine. He retired from the Arsenal after 33 years of service. After retiring he enjoyed working with GMB Auctioneers. Darwin would pick up food for his church food pantry and also transport food to Spring Village. He transported patients and their families to Shriners Children’s Hospital. Darwin is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Wenona “Nonie”; daughter, Cynthia Allert; sisters, Charlene (John) Hermiston and Marilyn (Bill) Wilson; brother-in-law, Roy (Jean) Shumard; daughter-in-law, Mary Suhr; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Janko, Shawna Gillenwater, Aaron Suhr, Mathew (Emily) Suhr, Nathaniel (Amanda) Suhr, Danielle (Bill) Morrow and Sarah (DJ) Ferguson; great grandchildren, Reno Gillenwater, Duncan Gillenwater, Donnie Jo Ferguson, Michael Ferguson, Gabriel Morrow and Elijah Janko; and twelve nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eleanor Suhr and son, David.
