Funeral services for Dennis G. Walker, age 71, of Davenport, IA will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Interment will follow at Oakdale Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the mortuary. Mr. Walker died on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center - Illini Campus in Silvis, IL.Dennis Gene Walker was born on February 21, 1938 in Davenport, the son of Lester and Gertrude (George) Walker. He married Iva Jean Iversen on November 15, 1958, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2008.Mr. walker served in the United States Army and served as a staff driver for Brig. General George White. Following his military obligations, he began work at Emeis Automotive in Davenport as an automotive technician retiring in 2006 after 47 years of service. He specialized in the rebuilding of odometers, speedometers, tachs, and clocks. Dennis was an avid hunter, loved to fish, enjoyed dancing, cheated at croquet, and most of all, loved being a grandpa.He is survived by - 2 Daughters: Kelly (Todd) Gray of Geneseo, IL, and Sheli (Frank) Moses of Davenport; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend Pam Koby.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, 2 sisters: Margaret and Marilyn, and a brother: L. Wilbur.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
