

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12th from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13th at the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church (325 W Lotte St.) at 11:00am to celebrate Dolores’ long life. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport.
Dolores was born to E.B. Carpenter and Alice Meyer Carpenter in Maysville, Iowa the week of the Great Stock Market Crash. She was number three out of nine children in a loving and happy family. She graduated from Davenport Central high School. She married Raymond Willson in 1948, and together they raised three children—Lynne, Steve, and Julie.
Dolores loved her life in Blue Grass. She was an active Past President in the American Legion Auxiliary. She never missed a year making fudge to send to the servicemen. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was an active member of Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. She began working at the Blue Grass Savings Bank in her early 40’s and retired when she was 84. She and Ray went out ballroom dancing nearly every weekend with friends. She was a member of The Moose Lodge. From 1958 onward, Dolores played 500 with a group of women friends. She also played cards with Liedertafel. She sewed, she gardened, and she was a voracious reader. She loved a trip to the casino and was pretty lucky. She also enjoyed travel.
Dolores will be missed and remembered with love by her daughters, Lynne Gregg (John) and Julie Hall (Jon). She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Liz Ogburn (Chris), Amanda Hall, Lauren Martinez (Adrian), and Tara Darda (Alex). Her great-grandchildren are Adam, Jake, Andrew, Luke, and Kaitlyn Ogburn, also Dylan Hurst, Charlotte Martinez, Aiden and Abbey Darda. Three sisters survive her, Joyce Cox, Marilyn Hagen, and Lana Mirr (Dale) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She also has two step-granddaughters, Ambre Keyes (Art) and Sheri (Gary) Smalley.
Preceding Dolores in death were her parents E.B. and Alice Carpenter, her husband Ray Willson, a WWII veteran, her son Steve and his wife Gayle and siblings, Gloria Mayo, Alvin Carpenter, Carmen Carpenter, Barbara Short, and Jim Carpenter
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Blue Grass Presbyterian Church, 325 W Lotte St. Blue Grass, Iowa 52726. This was Dolores and her family’s sweet little church since the 1950’s.
