Donald C. McLeod

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Donald C. McLeod, 86, of Davenport, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Davenport Unitarian Church. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. A private inurnment is scheduled at a later date. Mr. McLeod died following a lengthy illness at his home in Davenport on Thursday, August 15, surrounded by his family. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.Donald Charles McLeod was born on November 22, 1926, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of William and Lillie (Rehder) McLeod. After obtaining his B.S. Degree from the University of Iowa, he married Marion Doemland on December 27, 1949, in Park Ridge, IL. She preceded him in death in 1981. He later married Betty Strunk on October 16, 1982, in Davenport.Mr. McLeod was self-employed as the CEO and co-owner of McLeod &Bashaw Food Brokerage in Davenport, retiring in 1983. He then worked for 20 years at Community Resources. He was a long time member of the Unitarian Church in Davenport and was an active member for many years at the Davenport Sailing Club. He served as Treasurer for both. He was also an accomplished nature photographer.Surviving members of the family includehis Wife: Betty of Davenport; a Daughter: Katherine (James) Searle of Davenport; 2 Sons: Daniel McLeod and John McLeod both of Chandler, AZ; 6 Grandchildren, and 14 Great-Grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Unitarian Church or the Scott County Humane Society.
