Doris was born on August 13, 1919 in Davenport, Iowa, to Katherine (nee Kendall) and Albert Braddock. She was united in marriage to W.E.(Jack) Quandt April 9, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa.
Doris graduated from Davenport High School in 1936. She began her career at American Optical in downtown Davenport followed by 15 years as the Human Resources Manager at Sears. Her favorite employment, however, was the 24 years she was the Office Manager at the Runge Mortuary, retiring at the age of 75. Her husband, Jack, became an ordained minister in 1963 and led the congregation of the First Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Long Grove, Iowa for 24 years while maintaining a full-time job. Doris always worked full time, reared their three children, nurtured her friendships, and participated in various activities at the church, prepared good meals and maintained a lovely home. In 1998, Doris moved to Sun City West, Arizona where she spent nine of the "happiest years" of her life closer to her beloved brother and his wife, Donald and Karin. Due to health issues, at 87 years of age, Doris returned to Davenport to live out the final chapter of her life. Throughout the myriad of obstacles, she became sweeter with each day and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Doris was a very devoted mother, friend and role model. She was a past member of the Quota Club, enjoyed cooking (especially for holiday dinners) and she did it very well. She developed her wonderful gift of crocheting in which she made darling baby caps and beautiful afghans wrapping each of the recipients with loving warmth. Doris was a faithful servant to others. Doris is survived by children: Pamela (Steve) Wearth of Muscatine County, Iowa, Michael (Cynthia) Quandt of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Jo Quandt of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren: Christine (Peter) Bissinger, Michael Knuth, Amy (Jesse) Day and Andrew Quandt; great grandchildren: Austin Day, Hayden and Henry Bissinger and Jackson Knuth. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Karin) Braddock and nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Kathryn and Albert Braddock and siblings, Gene: and Grace. The Quandt family would like to thank their friend, Sue Gabel, for her love and support throughout Mother's final years.
A special thanks to the incredible staff of the Clarissa Cook Hospice House who guided us through each and every moment of this difficult process with loving tenderness for us all, especially Doris. They helped to make her transition a beautiful experience for us all. And so we raise a glass to a wonderful woman, for "It must be five o'clock somewhere". Please make your donations to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
