Dorothy I. Kundel

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 26, 2011 at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the mortuary. Dorothy was born on July 2, 1918 in Scott County, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Ida (Rissman) Spies. She married Henry Kundel on December 22, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1993.

Dorothy loved her family dearly and considered them her greatest asset. She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge and was a member of the Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She wintered in Arizona for over 40 years. Dorothy took an active interest in her 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren’s lives.

Those left to celebrate her beautiful life are her daughters Ruth (Tom) Whan, Plano, Texas, Eljean (Len) Lafrenz, Dixon, Iowa, Roberta (the late George) Bowie, West Branch, Iowa, Mary (John) Aitken, Bettendorf, Elaine (John) Johnson, Brimfield, Illinois, and Janet (Ken) Stottler, Henderson, Nevada; two brothers Andrew (Rose Marie) Spies, Stockton, Iowa, and Ralph Spies, Tipton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mildred Niedorf and Florence Dahms.
