

Douglas Harold Boemecke, 72, of Davenport passed away on September 7, 2016 in South Dakota doing what he loved best. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Runge Mortuary. A rosary will be prayed immediately following the visitation. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Our Lady of Victory Church, Davenport with a gathering one hour before the service begins. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or to the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and an amazing role model. He was very involved with his family and loved them very much. Being the life of the party, he always made sure everyone had a great time. Doug was a very giving man and would do anything for anyone. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers Fan. Doug was the former owner/operator of Mr. B’s Super Valu in Milan, Rock Island and Aledo, IL, before they became Save A Lot Food Stores.He loved riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and was very involved with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association in which he was currently a Chapter Director and Senior District Educator of Rider Education in Iowa.He took great pride in his involvement with the Patriot Guard and Honor Flights of the Quad Cities. He also participated as the chaperone for WWII veteran, Dave Brasmer. He was Past President of the Milan Chamber of Commerce and helped with many Milan Indian Summer Festivals and Parades. Doug was extremely proud of his three sons’ military careers. Jeff and Chris served with the Air Force while Tim served with the Army. They totaled 53 years of military service.Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann; children, Michele Brown, Wayland, MI, Jeff (Laura) Boemecke, Taylor Ridge, IL, Tim (Laurie) Boemecke, O’Fallon, IL, Chris (Christine) Boemecke, Troy, IL and Tammy (Steve) Swanson, Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren, Rachael (Adam) Richardson, Emily (Matt) Mapes, Brice (Megan) Boemecke, Jared Brown, Renae Boemecke, Josh Boemecke, Andrew (Melissa) Brown, Lauren (Donald Murray) Boemecke, Alison (Keigan Scott) Swanson, Ryan Brown, Madison Boemecke, Nichole Boemecke; and great grandchildren, Andie, Rylan, Payton, Quintin, Blake, Noah, Bentley, Emanuel, Hunter, Conner and Hannah. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Alicia; his parents, Margaret and Walter and a brother, Roger.
