Edward Leroy Harrington, 93, of Davenport, IA, passed away on October 25, 2024 at Genesis East Medical Center. Viewing at Weerts Funeral Home will take place at 11:30 a.m on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Edward will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.
Edward Leroy Harrington was born in Kemper County, Mississippi to Buff Thomas Harrington and Hattie Jane Stennis on May 2, 1931. In 1947 he and Josephine Cole got married. They had 6 children: 5 girls and 1 boy. In 1958, Leroy moved to Davenport, Iowa where he worked for over 35 years at the Blackhawk Foundry and Machine Company. After retirement, he continued to live in Davenport. He loved fishing and spending time with relatives and friends. He enjoyed watching wrestling matches, old western movies, and playing checkers. He also enjoyed learning about the Lord, praying, and being grateful for the many blessings bestowed upon him.
From his marriage, Leroy is survived by a son, Tommy Harrington of Omaha, NE; daughters, Thelma (Wayne) Uter and Mary (Leandrew) Wingo all of Rochester, NY; Annie (Jerry) Collins of Omaha, Nebraska, and Martha Seward of Orlando, FL.
He is also survived by Michael (Tony) Davis of Ohio (stepson) & Shirley Carter; 25 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, Effie E. Davis “Chick” (common law wife), daughter JoAnne Lessley, Sisters: Florine Mosely, Jenny Harrington, Iraine Collage, Molly Hannah, Dorothy Jones, and Annie Carr. Brothers: Willie, Ervin, Wilburt, Elgin, Thomas, Eugene, Tillman, and L.D. (Jack).
