

Eudora May “Udee” Cooper passed away February 17, 2017 In Moline. Following her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 pm, Saturday, 25, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel Eudora’s ashes will be interred along-side of her husband, James “Coop” Cooper at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, in a private family ceremony. Udee was born May 2, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of David Nourse and Mary Mae (Mefford) Poole. She was the eldest of three children: Her sister Winifred “Winnie” Poole Day and brother David Poole have both preceded her in death.
She married Harry Wellington Hogg in 1947 in Detroit. They later divorced in 1966.
She returned to school and received her bachelor of arts from Wayne State University while continuing to work for Wayne County Department of Social Services to support her family. She retired as a Public Welfare Administrator at age sixty-five. As a businesswoman with rental property from Detroit to Pontiac to Kalamazoo, she continued counseling her friends and tenants on ways to overcome emotional problems and improve their quality of life.
She married James Dewey Cooper on March 28, 1972. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1977.
Udee was a life-long gardener and loved to can and share her gardening bounty. She also loved to fish with her sons and good friend, Jeff Parsons. An avid reader, she especially loved reading Stephen King novels. She was an incredible cook who delighted in experimenting, especially with chocolate desserts. As an animal lover, she enjoyed neighborhood walks with numerous poodle companions.
She was active in the West Bloomfiled United Methodist and was a strong supporter of their refugee and start-up programs.
Moving to Iowa, as her health deteriorated, she lived at the Fountains in assisted living before moving to Heartland Health Care’s Arcadia Unit which specialized in Alheimers care. The caring and supportive staff made Mom’s last few years truly golden with their love and understanding. In lieu of flowers family would like memorials made in Eudora’s name to Heartland Health Care’s Arcadia Unit Activity Department, 833 16th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265
Udee is survived by her son, Dr. James D. Hogg, his wife, Karen Waurzyniak-Hogg, her only grandson, Alex Hogg, LISW, his wife, Valerie Meyer Hogg, LMT and her only great grandchild, Evelyn Hogg…She is also survived by her nephews, Richard Poole, Larry Cooper and niece, Donna Edwards. She was preceded in death by a son, William Frederick Hogg on August 27, 1991.
