

Funeral services for Eugene R. Combs, 76, of Bettendorf will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the mortuary. Mr. Combs passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home. Eugene Rollings Combs was born in Fabrius, West Virginia on September 11, 1934, the son of Lonnie and Elsie (Miller) Combs. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class during the Korean conflict. On September 13, 1959 he married Phyllis Kaalberg at West Liberty Catholic Church. Mr. Combs worked as a butcher in the meat market for both Randall’s and Eagle’s grocery stores. He also worked as a custodian for the Davenport schools, prior to his retirement in 1997. He was a volunteer driver for Metro Lab and a member of Word of Faith Tabernacle in Davenport. Eugene was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and watching game shows. Most of all though, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Bettendorf; a Daughter: Cindy (Dan) Combs-Mundt of Rochester, IN; two Sons: Donald (Mary) Combs and John (Amanda) Combs, both of Davenport; a Sister: Donna Mae Dick; 7 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Victor, Lonnie Jr., and Blair Combs. Memorials may be directed to Genesis Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, or to Timothy’s House of Hope.
