Evelyn C. Barton

Evelyn C. Barton, 93, of Davenport, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, September 20, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, Davenport, IA. Visitation, 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Runge Mortuary. Evelyn was born January 22, 1926 in Davenport, Iowa to Hugo and Ethel (Bell) Jacobs. June 12, 1944 Evelyn exchanged wedding vows with William Barton in Muskogee, OK. Together they had two children, Tim and Judy. He preceded her in death in 1998. She later married James C. Schaefer on February 1, 2003.

In her spare time, Evelyn loved to play bridge. She was a life member of the Eastern Star. She was an Auxiliary member of 42nd Rainbow Division of Army Veterans. Evelyn was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church and was also active at Holy Family Catholic Church. She love to travel, especially family trips to Cedar Lake, Minnesota. Evelyn was an avid Hawkeyes and Cubs fan. Above all Evelyn was devoted to her family and was a loving mother and grandmother.

Those left cherishing her memory include her children: Judy Taylor and Tim (Kimberly) Barton; six stepchildren; sister, Elizabeth Freitag; grandchildren: Charlie (Kristen) Taylor, Joe (Becky) Taylor, Andy (Jessica) Taylor, Katie (Ben) Voss, Rev. Kyle (Alexandra) Barton and Spencer Barton; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Evelyn is preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Grau and Edith Jacobs; brothers: Ed Jacobs, Glenn Jacobs, Bob Jacobs and one grandchild: Baby Taylor.
