

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 26. Tom was born on December 1, 1942, in Davenport, to Charles “Gene” and Estefania Joyce (Rodriguez) Simmons. He graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1963. Tom proudly enlisted in the United States Army serving from1963 to 1966. He saw combat in the Dominican Republic and received a combat infantry badge and a letter of commendation. He was united in marriage to Laverne Jennewein on March 30, 1987, in Eldridge. Tom worked for Caterpillar for over 15 years as a machinist.
Tom was a dedicated member of Westside Assembly Church, where his strong faith and gentle spirit touched many lives. He devoted himself to guiding others in their walk with Christ, leading Bible studies, and praying for friends and co-workers alike. His love for the Lord was evident in all that he did, both in his church community and in his daily life.
Outside of his ministry, Tom was an active member of the Oakhill Gun Club and enjoyed building model airplanes, especially World War II aircrafts. He had a passion for travel and cherished every journey shared with his beloved wife, Laverne.
Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Laverne; Tom's children from his previous marriage, Simone (Allen) Hansen and Celeste Simmons; stepchildren, Jeffrey (Cheryl Ann) McClendon, Cheryl Lynn McClendon, Lori Ann Sweeney; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers.
