Genevieve M. Young

Genevieve M. Young, 87, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 12:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 am until the service, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Genevieve was born March 7, 1927 in Pocahontas County, IA; the daughter of Lester R. and Theressa (Kaiser) Gillespie. She was united in marriage to Cecil Young on February 2, 1944 in Des Moines, IA; he preceded her in death. She had been employed twenty years at Burke Cleaners and also had been a custodian for the Davenport Public Schools. She retired in July 1989. She was very family oriented and loved visiting with her family. Those left to honor her memory include her children: one daughter Cheryln (Ron) Young, Blue Grass, sons Darnell (Nancy) Young, Davenport; Eugene (Patsy) Young, Buffalo; Irwin (Pat) Young, Eldridge and Terry (Kelley) Young, Davenport; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; four great-great grandsons; brother, Orin Gillespie, Texas and nieces and nephews. Her husband, parents, son and daughter-in-law Stanley and Pat Ann; great-great grandson, Kaiden James Young and a sister Darlene Young preceded her in death.
