Gloria J. Jones

Gloria J. Jones, 77, of Maysville passed away of natural causes on Sunday March 5, 2017. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Thursday March 09, 2017 at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday March 10 in the Runge Chapel.

Gloria was born February 17, 1940 in Davenport, the daughter of John and Marcella Lange. She was united in marriage to Howard Jones on December 24, 1969 in Iowa City, IA.

After college, Gloria was employed with the Bendix Corporation, selling vegetables on the side. Later, she managed Platts and Green Thumbers garden centers. On Saturday mornings Gloria hosted a radio show on WOC where she fielded plant and gardening questions.

Gloria had a passion for farming and horticulture; she would start her day between 3 and 4 am to attend to her chores. She raised dairy goats for 45 years and showed them at local fairs. Gloria also made goat’s milk soap which she sold at the Davenport Farmers Market.

Gloria always found a way to make things happen by way of her strong faith and beliefs. She was determined to live out her life on her farm.

Gloria is survived by her three sons; Jonathan (Jennifer) Jones of Eldridge, Brian Jones of Davenport, and Nathan Jones of Atlanta, GA.; two grandchildren, Jordan and Camryn; and one sister, Doris Crane, Lake Tahoe, NV.

She is preceded by her parents and husband Howard.
