

Harvey D. Schwarz, 87, of Davenport, IA, died with his loving family at his side on November 5, 2010 at Genesis West Medical Center. Services celebrating his life will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, IA, on November 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at Runge Mortuary from 3-7PM on Sunday, November 7, 2010. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted by Walcott American Legion Post # 548. He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in Germany and the Invasion of Normandy from 1943-1946.
Harvey was born July 10, 1923 on a farm in Durant to Herman and Frieda (Moeller) Schwarz. He married Carma Runge on June 15, 1946 at the home of Carma’s Aunt in rural Eldridge. After many years of farming he retired in 1970. He also worked for Oscar Mayer for over 25 years retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed working in his garage rebuilding many things, playing cards, dancing, bowling and being a pilot. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Walcott American Legion including the Honor Guard, Durant VFW, Davenport 40/8, Quad City Antique Club, Golden Wedding Anniversary Club, Nifty Fifty card club and the bowling association.
He is survived by his wife, Carma; his children, Doretta (Craig) Hipple, Roswell, NM; Calvin (Sharon), Davenport, IA; Carolyn Herbst, Asheville, NC; Kenneth (Janet), Walcott, IA; Myra Davis (Ken McElmeel), Iowa City, IA; Michael (Debbie Hillberg), Davenport, IA; Rhea (Kurt) Wolf, Dunlap, IL; and Denise (Brian) Timmerman, New Liberty, IA. They have 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter; sister, Irene Harderson; infant brother, Elmer; and one grandson, Nickalaus.
