

A gathering to celebrate the life of Helen E. King, 94, of Davenport, will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Garner Place Reception Center in Davenport. A private graveside service was held on Monday, January 5th, 2015 at the Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown, IL. Mrs. King died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center West Campus in Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Helen Emma Schryver was born on June 11, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Frances (Smith) Schryver. She was a proud and direct descendent of the Hill Family of Prophetstown, one of the original and founding families of Prophetstown. After graduating as the salutatorian of the Prophetstown High School class of 1938, she enrolled in the former Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1941. On September 13, 1942 she was married to Robert A. King at the home of her parents in Prophetstown. He preceded her in death in 2001. In earlier years, Mrs. King worked as an RN in the offices of Dr. George Koivun in Moline and then later spent most of her working life as the office manager of the family business, King Motor Service in Davenport. She was a long time and active member of the Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport, a member of the Quad Cities Antique Ford Car Club, and a member of the Classic Thunderbird Club International. She and her husband Bob enjoyed travel, especially to the southwest and cruising to Alaska. They were regular and yearly participants on the Lincoln Hi-way Tours. Mrs. King loved Dixie Land Jazz; she was very accomplished on both the piano and organ, and most especially enjoyed watching the University of Iowa Hawkeye basket ball teams.Surviving members of the family include – 2 Daughters: Barbara Dorsey of Colorado Springs and Carolyn Jessen of Davenport; 1 Grandson: Sean, and 2 Great-grandchildren: Hayden and Addison.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, and a sister Jane.“What the caterpillar perceives as the end, To the butterfly is just the beginning.”
