Hilda M. Brown

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Hilda was born on February 14, 1913 in Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Claus and Emma (Silberhorn) Schmarje. She married George Lee Brown on March 25, 1933 in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1993.

Hilda started her career at Muscatine Pearl Works. She later became a cake decorator at several bakeries and retired from Mercy Hospital working in the dietary department. Hilda was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. She loved to read, enjoyed going out to eat, have fun with her nieces and nephews, and with her husband, was an avid bowler. She enjoyed her 32 years at Ridgcrest. If asked how she was, “Happy, Healthy, and not Wealthy’

Those left to honor her memory include sister, Irene Evans, Indianola, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was an amazing aunt to Heidi, Joe, Dave, Steve and their spouses and children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Clarence, Albert, and Harry Schmarje.
