He was an early riser, a hard worker, a devoted husband, a dedicated father and a passionate teacher. Jack Hudson, 80, of Davenport, IA died on March 4, 2015. For 37 years Jack taught science in the Davenport Community School system. He began teaching at Davenport High when there was only one public high school in Davenport, President Eisenhower was in the White House and the Periodic Table of Elements numbered 102. There are now 114 confirmed elements. Jack led the science department at Davenport West High School for 30 years, teaching thousands of students. Jack was born January 17, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He married Gwen Grange July 29, 1967 in Indianola, IA. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing for catfish at Credit Island Park and occasionally caught one. Survivors include his wife, two children and two grandsons, all of whom he was ever proud. A memorial service will be March 21 at 2 p.m. at Runge Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davenport Public Library and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
