

Funeral services for James D. Burks, 75, of Davenport, will be 2:00 pm on Thursday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Mortuary.James passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center – West Campus, Davenport.James Doyle Burks was born on February 15, 1940 in McAlester, OK, the son of Cecil and Ruth (Craig) Burks. James Burks and Lois Trekell began their marriage 55 years ago, on July 2, 1960 in Davenport. James worked as a CNC Operator at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for over 20 years. He retired in 2002. James was a member of Cedar Memorial Christian Church, Davenport. He was a British Car Enthusiast, owning and restoring his Triumph TR6. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and regularly donated blood to the Mississippi Valley Blood bank.Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Davenport, sons: James (Laura) Burks of Indianapolis, Indiana, Matthew (Tracy) Burks of San Diego, CA; daughter: Lori (Nick) Miller of St. Charles, MO; sisters: Mary (Harry) Carter of Davenport, IA; Anita Smith of Davenport, IA; brother: Jerry (Kathy) Burks of Davenport, IA; sisters-in-law: Janet Trekell of Maquoketa, IA, Miriam Burks of Davenport, IA; grandchildren: Andrew, Allison, Jacob and Jacquelyn; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bill and Harold, his brother-in-laws Paul and Bob and his sisters-in-law Marianna, Carole and Jo.Memorials may be directed to Cedar Memorial Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.Remembrances and condolences may be made to the family at www.cunnick-collins.com.
