James Tate, 85, of Davenport, Iowa; passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in James’ memory may be made to his family.
James was born on January 15, 1937 to Edger and Janita (Washington) Tate in Canton, Missouri. James was common law married to Carolyn Price for over 35 years. He worked at Palmer College doing various projects around the grounds until he retired. Away from work, James loved to spend time with his family and grandson, watching his favorite TV shows and stories. He was a quiet man, but he wasn’t afraid to express his happiness to those who appreciated him. James was a humble and kind man; a man that will never be forgotten. He was like family to so many, nobody in the world deserved so much love and appreciation like he did. James didn’t have much to give, but if there was anything you needed he was there. He never asked for much of anything from anyone. He had a tough life but managed to make it through to the end with humbleness and kindness. He will be greatly missed.
James is survived by his common law wife, Carolyn Price; daughter Ashley Price; step sons Jeffery Price and Christopher Price; grandson Alexander Price; sister Viola Tate; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Clarence Tate, Russell Tate, and Robert Tate; and two sisters Mary Tate and Pat Tate.
