January 3, 1969 – February 3, 2022
Jeffrey Scott Haack, 53, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, February 3 at the HDC Residential Center, from complications of pneumonia.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
Jeff was born in Davenport on January 3, 1969, the son of Robert and Jeanne Hayes Haack. He lived in the family home, under his parents’ loving care, until he was 45 years old.
Until the age of 21, Jeff attended public schools in Davenport, with curriculums and programs designed for students with special needs. Beginning in 1990, the Davenport HDC (Handicapped Development Center) became his lifeline, first as part of their Workforce Employment Services program for disabled persons on Hickory Grove Road. Additionally, Jeff worked on a part-time basis at his church home, Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, performing custodial duties once a week.
Beginning in 2014, Jeff lived in an apartment, under the auspices of HDC. When he could no longer participate in the programs of the Hickory Grove Road facility, he became part of the dayhabilitation Personal Independence program at the HDC facility on Brady Street, and he moved to the HDC Residential Center. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care, opportunities, and activities provided to Jeff for more than three decades.
Jeff knew and experienced many joys in life. He loved hugs, both as a giver and receiver. He had an infectious giggle which filled a room. Hugs, giggles and affectionate interactions with wait staff were a big part of one of Jeff’s favorite activities, going out to dinner with his father. Jeff enjoyed attending church services with his family, and he particularly loved all aspects of Christmas. He also found joy in country music and television programs. He was an enthusiastic participant in Special Olympics. Perhaps his greatest passion was the entertainment of the World Wrestling Federation. Jeff enjoyed his large collection of dvds and especially live performances, thanks to his father bringing him to the TaxSlayer Center in Moline. Jeff also enjoyed the yearly family fishing vacations in Minnesota.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother Jeanne Haack in 2003, his brother James Haack in 2016, and his father Robert ‘Bob’ Haack in 2019.
Jeff is survived by his brother Joel (Linda) Haack of Cedar Falls, his brother Jon Haack of Elkader, his sister-in-law JoAnn Haack of Iowa City, his niece Jennifer (Kevin) Olson of Iowa City, two great-nieces Annika Olson of Lubbock, Texas and Mia Olson of Tampa, Florida, his aunt Berdyne Escher of Parkersburg, and his uncle Donald (Bonnie) Haack of Bettendorf. He is also survived by several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Handicapped Development Center, Zion Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences through Runge Mortuary (dignitymemorial.com).
