He was surrounded by people who loved him and cared for him deeply. He was 64
Jeff was born May 13, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa to Manuel and JoAnn (Kellenberger) Ortiz. He was the second of eight children belonging to the Ortiz clan. He grew up on East Rusholme Street where Jeff and his siblings were well known. Jeff’s only time living away from the Quad Cities was in the mid-80s when he and his family lived in Austin, Texas. Family meant a lot to Jeff and that is what brought him back home. Jeff lived a couple of years in Moline on the Rock River before finally settling down in Bettendorf in 1987.
Jeff obsessed over hunting, loved his yearly fishing trips, and enjoyed a round of sub-par golfing with family and friends. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved nothing more than going to games with his sons, except maybe collecting things for his garage.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Sally (Eddingfield); three sons, Adam (Rachel), Dylan, and Jake (Allison); five grandchildren: Amy, Anna, Ashley, Camille and Abel; seven siblings Robert, Nancy (Bruce), Lynn (Brian), Wendi, Tracy (Barry), Cheryl (Mark), and Manuel (Joan); and numerous nieces, nephews, great friends including Mike Foley, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Joseph; nephew, Christopher “Al”; and niece, Dawn.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, and the funeral services at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at The Runge Mortuary and Crematory in Davenport.
