John C. Lopez Jr., 81, of LeClaire, IA passed Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home. Cremation will be done with no service scheduled. Please share your condolences with the family at www.rungemortuary.com.
John was born on September 18, 1943, in Davenport, IA to John (Carman) Lopez Sr. John served in the US Navy from 1961-64 on the USS Pandemus. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sterling in 1982 in Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2012. John had been employed 35 years at the former Sivyer Steel prior to retirement.
John was a man of many talents whose greatest passion was spending time with his son & wife. They climbed a 12,000ft mountain and jet boated the Rogue River, where John asked why they did not ride the most dangerous part of the river. He loved his western movies & shows, claiming to have seen them all in black & white or color. One of his favorite lines was “Cisco, lets went”.
Survivors include his son John (Kristin) Lopez; ½ son Richard Pena; 3 sisters Rose Smith, Sally (Gerald) Sammon, & Gloria (Orville) Carpenter; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, & good friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
