Karla Kosgard, 65, of Davenport, Iowa, was triumphantly welcomed into heaven on April 9, 2026. Born June 15, 1960, in Iowa City, IA, Karla was the radiant daughter of William Kosgard and Ethel (Hall) Kosgard. She resided in Dixon and later flourished in Davenport, where so much of her life took root and blossomed.
Karla welcomed two beautiful daughters, Christina and Angelina, in her mid 20s, and her love for them only continued to grow.
Karla was a vibrant entrepreneur who explored many places and seized every opportunity that came her way. She was a charismatic social butterfly who lit up every room she entered. She reveled in the outdoors and especially loved shopping, spreading joy and kindness wherever she went. She was deeply loved and cherished by many, and her generosity was legendary - it was nearly impossible to leave her house empty-handed. She adored spending time with her grandkids and spoiled them rotten, making their birthdays unforgettable celebrations.
For Karla, life's simple pleasures were the most precious: going for a truck ride with her beloved, Jack, and spending time at the park with her family. She also held a special place in her heart for her fur babies, Daisy, Little Lady, and Toby, who brought her comfort, joy, and endless love. Karla's larger-than-life personality was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire and uplift us.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Jack Smith; daughters, Angelina Kennedy and Christina (Darren Gipson) Kennedy; grandchildren, Travis, Dakovion, Tanasia, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Justice, Armonti, Darreon, My'Kyel, Dahveon, and La'Meirre; great-grandchild, Malani; siblings, William (Mickey) Kosgard Jr., Patty (Charles) Williams, Kenneth Kosgard, Kathie (Rich) Brown, Julia (Robert) Sird, and Lupe Reyes; many nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces, and great-nephews. Karla was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Robert Kennedy; her precious grandchild, Dream; stepchildren Joshua Sutton and Angie Sutton.
A heartfelt thank you to Compassus Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
