

A graveside service, with military honors, will be Friday, April 4th at 10 am at the National Cemetery in Rock Island. Those wanting to attend the service need to be at Runge Mortuary by 9:15 am on Friday. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside service at the Izaak Walton League at 8440 N. Harrison Street in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to the Izaak Walton League or the Walcott American Legion.
Ken was born in Davenport on June 25, 1930. He was the son of Herbert and Crystal May (Miller) Thorndyke. He graduated from Davenport High School and went on to proudly serve in the US Marine Corp from 1948 until 1952.
He married Mary Lou Snyder on October 11, 1952, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2008. He worked as a customer service superintendent for Iowa American Water (formerly Davenport Water Works) for 39 years. Kenneth also served on the Board of Directors for area credit unions.
In earlier years he was a member of the Roosevelt Masonic Lodge, Davenport Valley Archers, Isaak Walton League and the Walcott American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and was a taxidermist and really enjoyed going to area casinos.
Those left to cherish Ken’s memory include his children: Julie Ann (Mike) Franklin, Sun City West, AZ, Paul (Ann) Thorndyke, Altoona, IA, Daniel (Amber) Thorndyke, Donahue, IA; grandchildren: Michael Jr. (Kimberly) Franklin, Tammy (Jim) Wiserock, Sharon (Neil) Meoni, Benjamin (Melia) Franklin, Paul (Jennifer) Thorndyke, Stephanie (Lewis) Baustian, Maryssa (Jon) Dunn, Shanna (Thomas) Bernauer and Soraya Thorndyke; 9 great grandchildren 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings; Jessie (Larry) Morris and Myra Halsey, brother-in-law, Harve Sultan along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, wife Mary Lou and wife, Lee, Kenneth was preceded in death by 9 siblings.
