Larry L. Behncke

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Larry L. Behncke, age 78, of Blue Grass, IA will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the solarium of Building 2 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Davenport. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the solarium. As was his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Behncke died on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at his home in Blue Grass following a lengthy illness.Larry Lee Behncke was born on July 31, 1932, to Harold and Evelyn (Stephens) Behncke in Lancaster, WI. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Navy. Following his military obligations, he married Marjorie A. Rosenboom on September 9, 1951, in Davenport. In earlier years, Larry worked with his father and 3 brothers at the Behncke Construction Company. He later was employed in general maintenance at the Handicapped Development Center in Davenport. Mr. Behncke loved to fish, work with wood, and most especially spend time with his family.Survivors include - his Wife: Marjorie; 1 Daughter: Luanne (Dave) Clark of Coon Rapids, MN; 2 Sons: Rick (Leslie) Behncke of Janesville, WI, Randy (Sally) Behncke of Blue Grass; 2 Sisters: Nancy Hennings and Julie Elliott; and 2 Brothers: Harold and Jerry; 10 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Danny in infancy, and a great-grandaughter: Lily.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Davenport Good Samaritan Center or Heartland Hospice.
