Private family services for Lester E. Nichols, 86, of Davenport were held at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Cunnick - Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.Lester passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Davenport Lutheran home, Davenport, IALester Eugene Nichols was born on December 13, 1923 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Carl and Goldia (Hull) Nichols. He married Nancy Jo Schneckloth on March 8, 1969 in Eldridge, IA. He worked as a manager for Bendix Corp for 18 yrs, retiring in the early 1970’s.Lester served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed music, played professional trumpet, and owned his own dance band, “The Royal Lancers”Survivors include his wife Nancy of Davenport, daughters; Barbara Jo, Sherri, Paige, sons; Greg, Dale, Jay, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Dennis.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the family.
