Lois A. Wellendorf, 86, passed away October 14, 2023 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2023 at Faith United Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at time of services. Luncheon to follow the service. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:30pm. Memorial contributions may be left to Camp Courageous or Faith United Church of Christ. Lois was born on July 3, 1937 to parents Ella (Schneider) and Harold Cromer in Moscow, Iowa. She attended Wilton High School and, following graduation, completed a degree at AIC Secretarial School. Lois was a secretary for over 35 years, she spent 23 of those years working for Mississippi Bend AEA and retired in 2003.
Lois met Robert, the love of her life, at In-Be’s (a singles group). They married on February 22, 1959 in her hometown. Together, they raised three children and had 42 wonderful years before Robert passed in 2002. When the kids were young, they enjoyed many camping trips together. Bob and Lois also opened up their hearts and home to 23 foster children.
In her spare time, Lois enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden, baking, and watching the birds outside her window. She also indulged in the simple pleasures of cookies and ice cream whenever the opportunity arose.
Those left to carry on her memory include her children; Ann (Mark) Dykstra of Thomson, IL, Aaron (Karen) Wellendorf of Livermore, CA, Arlene (Brian) Barclay of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Alan (Jessica), Joseph (Heidi), Janelle (Seth), Rachel (Charlie), Elizabeth (Cody), Brianna (Emily), Morgan; six great-grandsons; one sister, Wanda Martens, and one sister-in-law, Mary Wellendorf.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Harold, and three siblings, Dorothy Holtz, Frances Kuehl, and Sarah Steindorf.
