

Louis James Walker, Sr. 87, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. Memorial services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, October 6, 2023 with military honors being held in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born December 14,1935 in Davenport, IA son of Preston Sr. and Edith (Shamley) Walker. He was united in marriage to Virginia Page in 1958. Louis served our country in the United States Army. He successfully completed his Basic Combat Training with the 1st Battle Group 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado in November 1958. He transferred to USAR, XI U.S Army Corps where he was decorated as an expert in Rifle M1, sharpshooter in Carbine, and awarded a Good Conduct
Medal. He later received his honorable discharge in August 1964. After his military service, he worked for John Deere and Wilson Construction.
Louis loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, and yard work.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children Louis (Susan) Walker, Jr. (Davenport), Jeff Walker (Colorado), Bruce Walker (Minneapolis), Kent Walker, Gloria Walker, and Lisa Walker (Davenport). Loving grandchildren, Anna (Kevin) Walker-Ruffin, Gary Robinson, Jr., James (Chelsea) Robinson, Tyler Walker, Kent Walker, Jr., Meisha Walker, Damyra Williams, LaShell Walker, and Mariah Watkins; his brother, William Walker (Davenport) and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents (Preston, Sr. and Edith), sisters, Pamela Walker, Betty Myers, and brothers, Preston, Jr., Bobby, Richard, Booker, and Lincoln Walker.
