Lovetta M Abel

Lovetta “Lue” Abel, 96, of Davenport, IA passed away on April 3, 2025 at Ridgecrest Village. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Alzheimer’s Association. Lue was born on June 30, 1928 in Dubuque, IA to Ross and Juanita (Fulmer) Miller. She graduated from Davenport High in 1947. She married Raymond Voss on January 7, 1950 in Davenport. Together they had 6 children. Later, she married Rex Abel on May 15, 1971. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2005. During World War II, Lue worked summers at the Rock Island Arsenal. She later worked at AT&T as a long distance operator for many years. Lue was best known for her “gift of gab.” She loved being a social butterfly, chatting with friends and family. She never met a stranger. Well into her 80’s, Lue could be found lacing up her roller skates and taking the afternoon to skate.

Survivors include her children, Ross Voss, Regina (John) Brennan, Mark Voss (Mike Mobley), Matt Voss; stepchildren, Ron (Marlyss) Abel, Richard Abel, and Sandra Todd; grandchildren, Kinnara, Todd, Jeff, Parker, Angela, Jeffrey, Brandi, Justin and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Delores and Helen, son, Ray, daughter, Rita and granddaughter, Julie.
