

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Marjory E. Congrove, 91, of Davenport, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Morning Sun Cemetery, Morning Sun, IA. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Congrove died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at her residence in Davenport.Marjory Elizabeth Ironside was born on September 20, 1922 in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the daughter of George and Jean (Bruce) Ironside. After graduating valedictorian of her high school class she went on to Webster’s Business College in Aberdeen and then began work for the Ministry of Food in their wartime offices. After working for the Ministry, she went on for specialized training at the engineering school in Glasgow and then began work in Manchester, England at a Ford Motor Company Plant converted for the war effort. It was in Manchester that she met her future husband, Raymond Congrove who was stationed there with the United States Army. They were married in London in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1975. In 1947 she and her husband moved back stateside to Morning Sun, IA and eventually to Davenport. Mrs. Congrove was employed for many years as a clerk-typist at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1983. Her memberships include the Scottish American society and the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. She especially enjoyed spending time boating on the Mississippi.Surviving members of the family include – her Son: Roy (Marilyn) Congrove of Bettendorf and 2 Grandsons, 4 Great-grandsons and 1 Great-Granddaughter.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 sister and 2 brothers.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
