Marvella M. Mentria

Funeral services for Marvella M. Mentria, 86, of Davenport will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Mentria died on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Marvella Mae Acosta was born on December 1, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Florence (Hart) Acosta. She was a graduate of Davenport High School and for many years owned and operated an embroidery and seamstress business. In 1956 she married Buddy C. Woods here in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1968. In 1969 she married James Mentria. He also preceded her in death in 1982.

Marvella enjoyed the outdoors, Bingo and most especially being a Mom.

Surviving members of the family include - 2 Daughters: Edith 'Pebbles' (Bobby) Farrar of Wisconsin, and Carol Mentria of Davenport; 3 Sons: Charles Woods of Davenport, Roger Woods of Knoxville, IA, and David Mentria of St. Louis, MO; 2 Sisters: Rosemary Angel and Ruthie Green both of Davenport; 11 Grandchildren: Daminika, Jonah, Arianna, Curtis, Leondae, Denesha, Tenesha, Marquez, Lakeisha, Toriano, Devante; and a host of Great and Great-great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's: Buddy and James, a son Buddy Woods Jr, and a brother Fred Acosta.
