A celebration of his life will be held October 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Village, 4130 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, Iowa 52806.
Marvin was a twin, born July 19, 1931 in Fairfield, Iowa to Clyde Clarence and Stella Mae Crable.
He was married to Maxine Kessel from 1952 to 1967.
On July 7, 1970, Marvin married Peggy Carter Moore.
Marvin was a leadsman in fabrication at Louden Machinery for 23 years, a member of the National Guard for 12 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield and took care of all building and ground maintenance until moving away.
In 1974 Marvin moved his family to Louisville, Kentucky where he started and air freight cartage business. He ran his business for 6 ½ years before moving to the Quad Cities. At that time, he became the maintenance technician for May Company, taking care of 6 Venture stores in the region before retiring in 1993.
Peggy retired in 1997 and the couple moved to a 2-acre home near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Together they enjoyed completely remodeling, gardening, woodworking and helping others. He was an all around handyman who enjoyed doing plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc.and loved using those skills to help family and friends. He loved volunteering at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He worked there as their building maintenance for several years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 2008 Marvin and Peggy moved to Davenport, Iowa. By 2010 his health started to decline and in 2014 he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsonism.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Peggy and their 5 children; Karen Lloyd) Thola and Chris (Pam) Crable both of West Burlington, Iowa, Jerry (Jacque) Crable of Burlington, Iowa, Lori Brown (Fiance Mark Hofmann) and Michelle (Cory) Voelkers both of Davenport, Iowa. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandchild.
It was Marvin’s wishes to donate his body to the University of Iowa Carver College for medicine for research for finding a cure for Lewy Body Dementia.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Marvin’s name for Lewy Body Dementia research.
