

Melvin E. Quick, 92, formerly of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 19, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 2-5 pm Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Mr. Quick was born October 21, 1919 in Walker, Minnesota, the son of Raymond and Amanda (Lahl) Quick. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. On June 24, 1942, he married Hanna B. Engler in Davenport. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2005.
He was a farmer for 45 years and had also been employed by Franks Foundry and the Rock Island Arsenal. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he also enjoyed VIP bus trips and visiting the Rhythm City Casino.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Melva J. and John Lewis of Bettendorf and Linda and Stephen Bivens of Rock Island, Illinois; grandchildren: Jennifer Zaleski, Nicole and Carey Sodawasser, and Christena Bivens; five great grandchildren; and his cat Tagalong.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
