

Funeral services for Michael W. Archer, 64, of Bettendorf, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial including military honors will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until service time at the mortuary. Mr. Archer died on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.Michael Wilson Archer was born on July 22, 1945 in Moline, IL, the son of Victor and Mary Lou (Mapel) Archer. Following his graduation from Pleasant Valley High School in 1963, he joined the United States Navy. He served as an electrician aboard the USS Holmes County (LST-836) in Viet Nam and in the Philippines. Following his military obligations he returned to the Quad Cities and married Cheryl Broughton on September 26, 1969 in Davenport. Mr. Archer worked as a union electrician thru Union Local #145 at the Kohler Electric Company for many years.Michael loved nature, the outdoors, and especially loved to garden. He was a long time member of the Bettendorf Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9128.Survivors include – his Mother: Mary Lou Archer of Trenton, MO; his Daughter: Vicky “Punkin” Archer of Davenport; a Stepson: Jeff (Lori) Burton of Davenport; 2 Sisters: Sammy Archer and Cindy Archer both of Bettendorf; a Brother Benny (Doris) Archer of Winona, IL; 2 Grandchildren: Ashly and Aaron Bunch; and his companion of many years: Donna Grimm.He was preceded in death by his Father: Victor, a Stepdaughter: Kim Burton; and a Brother: Timothy. The family would like to give a special note of thanks to Genesis Medical Center, the staff, physicians, nurses, and especially the dialysis center for the wonderful and loving care Michael received these last few years.
