Mikell George Blocker

Mikell G. Blocker, 73, of Davenport, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 until 7:30 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the D.A.V. or Wounded Warrior Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

Mikell was born June 16, 1941 in Iowa City, IA and lived his whole life in Davenport. He was the son of Alvin Herbert and Julia Catherine (Koenig) Blocker. He paid his way through high school. He married Paula Gold on October 10, 1975. He was a Senior Airman, E-4 in the U.S. Air Force where he worked as an Aircraft Propeller Mechanic; having served from July 15, 1959 until June 17, 1964. He served at the Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam and was stationed in Japan. He later worked for the Rock Island Arsenal for 29 ½ years as a criminal investigator, retiring in May 1993. He lived a life of service to his country.

He enjoyed watching cartoons with his grandchildren; he dearly loved his family, they were very important to him. He loved his cats, Pebbles and Briggsy. He also collected pipes and bossons wall art and loved antiquing, going to garage sales and auctions and salvaging items. He was known by his first name in many restaurants, banks and other shops. He had so many friends who will miss him.

Survivors include his children: Michelle (Matthew) Blocker-Rosebrough, Davenport; Mikell Blocker, Ormond Beach, FL and Meredith Blocker, Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Sydney, Austin and Tyler Rosebrough, sister, Judith (Don) Tinkler, Eldridge and many nieces and nephews to whom he will always be known as “Uncle Mike Genius is Cool”; and brother-in-law Stan Thee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Norma Beadel, John Blocker, Linda Richters, Catherine “Katie” Wallace, Mary Groenbeck, Herb Blocker, Maxine Blocker, and Julia Thee.
