

Services for Mousa A. Marrar, 75, of Geneseo will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Islamic Center, Moline. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, immeditately after. Mousa was born on December 25, 1940 in Ajjur, Palestine, to Ahmad and Safia (Ela’sy) Marrar. He married Aysheh Issa on October 9, 1959, in Jericho and was a devoted husband and a loving father.A dutiful son, he left school as an eighth grader to harvest the fields of the Jordan River and to work as a clerk for his father’s grocery store, though he championed higher education for his own children.Starting as a child refugee, Mousa built a life with his family from scratch, thanks to his undying belief in hard work and entrepreneurship. He will be remembered as a fearless adventurer who left his job as an airline mechanic in Kuwait a few years before the Gulf War.Traveling from Bangkok in the East to Los Angeles in the West, he and his family finally settled in Geneseo as the owners of the Oakwood Motel and apartment buildings in the QCA.He is survived by six children: Fatina of Amman, Jordan, Shatha of Chicago, Hassan of Geneseo, Hussain of East Moline, Khalil of Bloomington, Mohamad of Geneseo; a sister: Fahima Abu Ayyash of London, Ontario; eleven grandchildren & five greatgrandchildren whom he adored.In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife in 2007 and brothers Salim, Abdel-Fattah, Issa, and Hussain.Mousa’s sacred calling as a protector nurtured a deep faith among those whom he touched in kinship, friendship, love, and the community. A man of conviction, Mousa embraced fate but always reached beyond the horizon.
