Have you ever heard of a guy getting a full bull riding scholarship to Minnesota State University, Mankato? Randy loved bull riding, which makes sense because he could be a bull-headed guy on occasion. He proved that by beating cancer not once, but three times since 2011. Randy Gullion passed away on August 13th at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after suffering a series of strokes that left him unable to enjoy the life he loved. His wife Mary was by his side, held his hand, and said it was time for his last journey.
Randy was born on January 24, 1955 in Davenport to Frances and Earl Gullion. He later became the stepson of Evelyn Gullion. He was a man who cared so much for others that he devoted his life to caregiving, serving as a paramedic and later a Registered Nurse for 20 years, working until well past retirement age because he just didn’t want to stop. In fact, he worked up until two weeks before his suffered first stroke in July while vacationing in Alaska, his bucket list trip. Randy also enjoyed camping, fishing, wildlife, his baseball card collection, barbecuing, and the outdoors
Visitation will take place Friday August 16th from 10 a.m. to noon at Weerts Funeral Home 3625 Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport. A celebration of life service will follow at Weerts, officiated by Father Rudy Juarez. The family requests everyone attending to wear casual attire so please dress in Cubs or Hawkeye attire or short sleeved t-shirts, shorts (everyone knows he wore them year round) and Hey Dude shoes or your favorite sandals or tennis shoes. Everyone is welcome to stop by Randy and Mary’s house afterwards for a celebratory open house, taco buffet and cocktails beginning at 1:00 p.m. Be prepared to light up your cigars and drink a whiskey and diet with 3 olives (always) and toast to him.
