Rita Sue Martens

Funeral services for Rita Sue Martens, 66, of Bettendorf, formerly of Waterloo, will be 10:30 am on Saturday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Entombment will take place at Pinehill Cemetery at a later date. Family will greet friends on Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mortuary.Rita passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Trinity Medical Center, Bettendorf. Rita Sue Eckenrod was born on July 7, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Mabel (Stille) Eckenrod. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1965. After graduating she moved to the Quad Cities where she married Daryl Nehlsen, they were later divorced. She then married Timothy Martens, they were later divorced. In the early 80’s Rita began working at Quad City Brick & Tile. She worked there for 19 years. Rita then worked for Fidlar Technologies, retiring in May of 2012.Rita loved creating gifts and artwork for others to enjoy. Bowling and bingo were some of her favorite pass times. She will be missed greatly by many friends and family.Survivors include her mother; Mabel of Waterloo, daughter; Michelle (fiancée Ron Coppola) Nehlsen Hausch of Richmond,TX, son; Ryan Martens of Davenport, three grandchildren; Jordan Defrates Martens and Lucius and Rhys Martens, a sister; Kathryn (Lyle) Buhr, a brother; Kerry (Mary) Eckenrod, three nieces, Traci (Tony) McNally, Sara (Tom) Whyte, Amanda (Zack) Bolton and nephew Brian (Lesa) Buhr.She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth on May 27, 2013.Online condolences may be shared with the family at Cunnick-collins.com.
